Porcelain Veneers

There are any number of reasons that veneers might be needed to repair or improve a smile. Some common reasons for veneers are:

  •     Spaces between the teeth
  •     Chipped or worn teeth
  •     Unsightly stained or discolored teeth
  •     Crooked or misshapen teeth
  •     Teeth that are too small or too large
  •     Smile enhancement

Porcelain Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front of your teeth to change their appearance and function. They can be used to change the size or color of a tooth, or to bridge a gap or space between teeth.

When a veneer is applied a small amount of the original tooth is removed and then an impression is taken and sent to a lab where the veneer is custom made to perfectly fit your tooth and mouth. Once the mold has been made and the tooth created, the veneer is carefully applied to your tooth.

When bonded to a tooth the porcelain material is very strong and durable, much like your normal teeth. If only one or two veneers are being applied, as is often the case for a tooth repair, every effort will be made to match the color of the veneer to the rest of your teeth. Of course, veneers can also be used as a form of teeth whitening, covering up stains and discoloration.

Regardless of the reason for getting them, once applied porcelain veneers should be maintained and cleaned just like your own teeth.
