Root Canal Therapy

Simply Dental in Seattle are experts in Root Canal Therapy. Since patients are given anesthesia, a root canal is no more painful than getting a routine filling. Don’t live with pain!

Inside your tooth, underneath the hard layer of enamel and dentin, is a soft tissue called pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. Once it is removed, the tooth is carefully cleaned, disinfected, filled, and sealed.

Root canal therapy is indicated when there is an infection deep within the tooth or when there is irreversible pulpitis (inflammation of the pulp) because of an injury or because of a severe, untreated cavity. Without treatment, the infection can cause pain or even an abscess.

Pain-Free Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment has a reputation for being a painful treatment. In reality,  root canal treatment can often be completed with minimal discomfort. Since patients are given anesthesia, a root canal is no more painful than getting a routine filling. However, a tooth that has a root canal is generally a bit sore or numb after the procedure and may last for a few days.

Common signs and symptoms which might require a root canal:

  • Pain while chewing or applying pressure to a tooth.
  • Prolonged sensitivity or pain to hot or cold temperatures after the cause of temperature change has been removed.
  • Discoloration or darkening of the tooth.
  • Swelling or tenderness in gums surrounding the tooth.
